• Types of Per Diem "Substitute" Employees

    PER DIEM TEACHER (day-to-day  coverage)
    A Per Diem Teacher, alias a substitute teacher, provides day-to-day coverage district-wide for teacher absences. The employee at HCI Liaison is the Senior Personnel Analyst in the Substitute Management Division.   Per Diem Substitute Teachers are members of the Rochester Teachers Association. Teacher certification is not required per diem. However, Uncertified Per Diem Teachers may work a maximum of 40 days per school year. The initial pay rate is $132.00 per day. The rate increases to $198.00 per day after 50 days and if a per diem teacher works 100 days in the same school year, the rate increases to $215.00 per day.     There are requirements that must be met upon reaching a pay rate in order to maintain it.

    LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE TEACHER (same assignment/same teacher/same students)
    A Long Term Substitute is a Per Diem Teacher that provides coverage for a teacher absent for more than 3 weeks.   Per Diem Substitute Teachers are members of the Rochester Teachers Association. Teacher certification is not required to work as a per diem teacher, however, a Bachelor's degree is needed. The base initial pay rate is $132.00 per day.  After 16 days, the rate increases by $15.00. The rate increases to $248.00 per day after 46 days. If a per diem teacher works more than 61 days, they become eligible for medical and dental benefits while working on the long-term assignment  and the payrate remains at the maximum rate of $248.00 per day.
