Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small and the Rochester City School District offer their sincerest condolences to the families who are mourning the tragic loss of their loved ones, and heartfelt prayers to those in recovery, after the mass shooting on September 19 in the City of Rochester.
Crisis Team members from the RCSD will be on hand on Saturday, September 19 to provide support to students the following R-Centers:
“I am heartbroken over last night's tragedy involving so many of our children. I send my deepest condolences to the families of those we lost, and heartfelt prayers for those in recovery. Our community must come together to work on healing our youth who continue to be traumatized and victimized by these senseless acts of violence. I have deployed a group of Crisis Team members to the 5 open R-Centers today to offer emotional support to our students. We must take action to provide as much love and support as we possibly can. I will also be visiting the sites today.”, said Superintendent Myers-Small.
Any student can visit one of those centers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our Counselors and Student Support Services team will be available for students throughout the school day and during the Social Emotional daily check-ins every school day.
Additional resources for support are available in the Trauma, Illness, and Grief Resources on this website.
Words cannot express the sadness and hurt we feel over the tragic death of Daniel Prude. This horrible act of violence against a member of the Black community happened right here in our home town. (Click here to read the full statement)
