• SEL Days in the RCSD

About SEL Day

  • “Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. SEL can help school districts advance equity and excellence by cultivating adult and student practices that close opportunity gaps and create more inclusive school communities” (CASEL, 2023).

The health and well-being of both staff and students are crucial. So, RCSD building-based half-school days entitled “SEL Day” (Social-Emotional Learning Day) will be dedicated to focusing on the mental health and well-being of both staff and students. On March 1, staff members are encouraged to work collaboratively to conduct SEL activities with their students during the school day and it is also recommended that educator wellness activities occur once scholars are dismissed. Please use this landing page as a reference to help plan and implement SEL Day. Please remember that your SEL teams in your buildings are also a great resource and will have access to the Student Support Services library where they can check out SEL books, resources, games, fidgets, and much more.
