    Dear School 34 Community,

It is October and that means our school-wide Tiger Trait will focus on self-awareness. At School 34, self-awareness is understanding your own thoughts and feelings and using your social detective skills to identify the hidden rules for any given social situation.

If you can believe it, our 1st quarter ends November 8th and report cards will be sent home the week of November 18th. As the 2nd quarter begins, prepare your child for more challenging work. It is critical that all students give their best effort even when the work is difficult.

Please ensure that your child is reading at home for at least 20-30 minutes per day. The research is clear: students who read at home every day increase their academic success and career opportunities.

    Important Dates:

    • Picture Day-Monday, October 21st
    • Halloween
      • At School 34, we love to get into the spirit of the holidays, but it is important that we address a few concerns as they relate to costumes. Costumes with violent themes/blood/weapons are not permitted. Additionally, due to safety concerns, masks cannot be worn during the school day.

    Your support is needed:

    • Due to county budget costs, we will not be having the free flu clinic at school this year.
    • NYS mandates physicals for all students that are new to the school district, pre-school, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th If your child has had a physical in the past year, please have the doctor’s office fax a copy to the nurse’ s office at 794-5034 or mail to the school, attention nurse’s office.  If your child is overdue for a physical, please schedule one and make sure, once complete, that a copy be sent in to the nurse’s office.  It is important that the school has current medical information on all students in case of an emergency.
    • Daily attendance is critical. We love our students and need them here every day. If a student misses 2 days of school a month, that student is considered chronically absent

Please remember to follow us on our school website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram (RCSD34), and Class Dojo. The website can be found at www.rcsdk12.org/34. If you have any questions or thoughts, please do not hesitate to contact me. Go Tigers!

    Sincerely,

    David Passero
