The Mission of the Department of English Language Arts and Literacy K-12 is to ensure that all of our students possess the literacy skills necessary to be College and Career ready by the end of twelfth grade. This will be accomplished through the facilitation of rigorous literacy instruction by educators who are knowledgeable, caring, and collaborative with respect to each student's cultural perspective, voice and contributions.
Our Vision is to develop advanced literacies in ALL students. Advanced Literacies represent a set of skills and competencies that enable communication, spoken and written, in increasingly diverse ways and with increasingly diverse audiences. This requires writing with precision, reading a variety of texts with understanding, and speaking in ways that communicate thinking critically across the content areas. These advanced literacy skills prepare students for participation in academic, civic, and professional communities, where knowledge is shared and generated.
