Board of Education Listening Sessions
-
The role of the school board is to represent the vision and values of the community. There are many things a board and board members do, but they should all be in service of representing the vision and values of the community as a whole.
As Rochester City School Districts welcomes our new Superintendent, the Board of Education is preparing to take the next steps in the priority setting process. This entails listening for input from you - the RCSD Community - that will help us identify our focus for the next 5 years.
Join the Commissioners of the Rochester Board of Education for a Community Listening Session focused on your long-term vision for education in the Rochester City School District. Board members will guide a meaningful conversation to gather your insights, ensuring the community’s collective vision and values are reflected in our future plans.
There are two things the Board is seeking input on:- Your vision for what our students should know or be able to do, which will be used along with student performance data to confirm that Goals for the district -- our focus for the next 5 years – remain consistent with what was heard during the recent strategic planning process. (You'll find the goals listed in the RCSD Strategic plan located on the RCSD website: https://www.rcsdk12.org/Page/58484)
- Your values that must be protected will be used to craft the Guardrails – non-negotiables that describe what the Superintendent should not allow to happen as he pursues the vision.
What happens next?
The goal of this process is to bring consistency and stability to what is most important in our district, creating both clarity and consistency for our school district and ultimately for our students. Upon completion of our community listening sessions, the board and superintendent will discuss where to focus based on the feedback we receive from you while also taking what the data tells us into consideration. We anticipate posting final drafts with time for review prior to our adopting them into policy this fall. What if I cannot attend a Listening Session?
The Board of Education is accepting written feedback about your vision for the District and your values, as outlined above. Please complete our Participant Form to provide your feedback.
