Welcome to Career and Technical Education!
Rochester City School District (RCSD)'s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department offers a continuum of career related programs and enrichment activities for Pre-K through 12th grade scholars. From "Scrubs Club" and "Girls Who Game" to high school CTE courses and approved programs that integrate academics with workforce skills, CTE ignites scholars' interests and connects them to the real world. High school scholars can participate in programs of study that meet business and industry standards. Scholars receive instruction in an industry-related area and have the opportunity to graduate high school with industry-specific competencies and skills that lead to post-secondary education, industry training, apprenticeships, and/or entry into the workforce.
Scholars enroll in CTE programs because they want to learn hands-on skills in career areas that interest them while also earning a Regent's Diploma. In addition to working in school laboratory settings, scholars have opportunities to take part in internships, mentorships, shadowing, and other industry-based, real-life experiences and graduate with multiple options. They may choose to continue their education at colleges and universities, go directly into the workforce, enter technical training programs or apprenticeships, attend career-focused schools, or engage in a combination of these options.
CTE programs differ from industry to industry, but all programs provide scholars with:
- a rigorous academic program to help them meet Regent's Diploma requirements,
- a cohesive sequence of academic courses paired with CTE courses and integrated content,
- connections between the high school program and a related industry and post-secondary pathway,
- opportunities to earn a recognized industry credential or certificate, and
- preparation for post-secondary opportunities.
RCSD offers numerous CTE programs including: Advertising, Automotive Technology, Construction, Culinary, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Teaching and Learning, TV & Video Production, and Vision Care, to name a few. Check back often as new CTE programs are currently being developed.
