In the spring of 2017, the RCSD’s Office of School Innovation had the opportunity, during the Wallace PLC in Jacksonville, FL to visit The Moonshot Moment. From that ‘moment’ the RCSD team was struck with the notion of what a similar vehicle could provide the students in Rochester. In the summer of 2017, the RCSD’s vision of their own “Innovation on the Move” became a reality with assistance of The Center for Youth and other local funders. Staffed with a RCSD teacher, two AmeriCorp members, and two Center for Youth staff, “Innovation on the Move” visited learning sites daily throughout the summer providing hands-on literacy lessons to students in grades kindergarten through 2. The vision for “Innovation on the Move” didn’t stop with just summer. Throughout the 17-18 school year, “Innovation on the Move” has been an on-site the host at multiple school and community events.
