THE HISTORY OF THE ALUMNI-ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM & WHY ALUMNI!

    T
he alumni-engagement program was started by 33 Rochester City School District (RCSD) alumni who took the initiative to give back to the Rochester Community. The idea was to inspire current students who were in the district through sharing their success stories. The district responded by creating an alumni webpage where alumni can share their stories about being a product of the District and how it positively impacted their lives.

Due to high interest among RCSD alumni, the program created its foundation through the formation of the alumni-engagement survey, Facebook page and connecting with local organizations and high schools to provide volunteer opportunities.  The alumni engagement program is a vehicle for RCSD alumni and is designed to inspire individuals who graduated from the Rochester City School District to give back to current students through tutoring, mentoring and donating.  It is a resource that alumni can use once or multiple times.

Rochester City School District's vision for our students is to educate our students to be productive members in society, future leaders and life-long learners. Our mission of the alumni-engagement program is to enhance the students’ social- emotional and academic performances. The program gives students the socio-emotional and academic support needed to have a more positive outlook on school, increasing student attendance, promoting positive student behavior and academic support to increase high-school graduation.

We encourage alumni to consider mentoring and tutoring before school, after school and during vacations to help us enforce the superintendent's initiatives of higher graduation rates, better attendance and positive student behavior.
