    Alumni team

Many former Rochester City School District students already give their time to help youth in the community. Here are some of our current team members.

To nominate someone for the Hall of Fame, contact us at alumni@rcsdk12.org.

    Jillian Strobeck
East High School, Class of 2009

Jillian was inspired to teach by her experience attending East High School. RIT's Future Stewards program connected her to the STEP program, which brings high school students to RIT for hands-on workshops, college and career exploration, and academic support. Jillian was a tutor with the program, which allowed her to support high school students who are interested in STEM fields. She hopes to continue to be involved in the future.

    Kim Karim

Kim is President of the Wilson/West Alliance, a non-profit volunteer organization that raises funds for Wilson students. These can be educational, emergency, or extracurricular needs. The Alliance also raises funds for the Edward Fox Memorial Scholarship.

They hold a dual reunion/fundraiser golf tournament that involves students, teachers, and alumni.

    Mrs. Doris McDowell

Mrs. McDowell's grandchildren attend School 45 and she comes in almost every day. A teacher at School 45, Ms. Marion, says of Mrs. McDowell: "She will show up wherever needed, and she is willing to do whatever needs to be done. I am able to see rewards found etched into the faces of our students as they work with Mrs. McDowell."

Thank you for all your hard work!

    Lisa Burkovich
Frederick Douglass High School, class of 1981

In her role as the RCSD Emergency Manager, Lisa works diligently to be a positive role model for students in each building.

Lisa also does a lot of volunteering for Rochester Animal Services in her spare time. Whenever possible, she brings students along with her to work with animals and support the program.

She also gives her time to the Explorer and CERT programs that help high school students learn about careers as firefighters. She was active in setting up the CERT after school program for students.

"I was adopted, and I also went through some of the same problems that many of the youth are going through now so I figured that I would give back but also try to help them cope with their problems by giving them an insight on things greater to come"
