Surprise Donation for Wheelchair Basketball at Adlai E. Stevenson School No. 29

(May 6, 2022) Wheelchair basketball has been a huge hit for students at Adlai E. Stevenson School No. 29, and the school just got a big donation.

Since December, the school has teamed up with non-profit organization Endless Highway to bring inclusive basketball to students with or without disabilities.

In order to continue the promotion of inclusivity within the District, Endless Highway has donated all of its specialized sport wheelchairs the school has been using for its program along with other equipment.

On Friday, May 6, the wheelchairs were donated in honor of Principal Joe Baldino.  Mr. Baldino was not aware of the donation and was surprised during an assembly in the school’s gymnasium where students were participating in wheelchair games.

“I am deeply touched,” said Principal Baldino.  “Since I became principal here six years ago my goal has been to try and make sure that our students with or without disabilities can interact on a daily basis.  I am ecstatic for the opportunity for our children so they can interface and play with each other and provide our students with disabilities the same opportunities for our students without disabilities.”
