Interim Superintendent Demario Strickland Announces Leadership Appointment

(October 10, 2024) Interim Superintendent Demario Strickland is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vicma Ramos as the Acting Chief Academic Officer (CAO), effective October 9, 2024. With a proven track record of success, she brings over three decades of educational leadership experience, a deep commitment to student achievement, and a focus on data-driven strategies to help guide the District through our year of unprecedented growth.

Dr. Ramos comes to the Acting CAO role following a distinguished tenure as the District Superintendent of Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES. In addition, Dr. Ramos has a long and accomplished history within the Rochester City School District, serving as the Executive Director of Accountability and Placement and as a principal at James Monroe High School and Frederick Douglass Middle School.  She earned her Ed.D. in Educational Administration from St. John Fisher University. Her advanced degrees include a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration from SUNY Brockport, a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts/Spanish from SUNY Brockport, and a Bachelor of Arts in Multilingual Education/Spanish/ESL from Florida State University.

Dr. Ramos takes on the Acting CAO role as Stephen LaMorte returns to the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, where he will work with various departments on initiatives such as monitoring the District’s strategic, academic, and fiscal plans. We thank him for his leadership and commitment to our District.

Please join us in welcoming back Dr. Ramos into this critical leadership role. We look forward to her contributions as we continue our mission of activating dreams and unlocking potential for every student in the Rochester City School District.
