Students Learn About Solar Eclipse from 13 WHAM Meteorologist Scott Hetsko

(March 15, 2024) As excitement builds for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024, students at Adlai E. Stevenson School No. 29 are learning from a well-known scientist in Rochester.

13 WHAM Meteorologist Scott Hetsko spoke to students in Megan Ange’s 5th–grade class on Friday, March 15, 2024, about the upcoming astronomical event and what to expect.

“The students were engaged; they were asking great questions, and they really enjoyed having Scott come in.  I did, too!” said Ange.

“The sun is going to be blocked by the moon, and it is going to be so, so, cool,” said Asai St. John-Thompson, a student in Ms. Ange’s class.  “It is a once-in-a-lifetime event!” Asai plans to watch the eclipse with proper eyewear with his mom, dad, and little sister.

The viewing of the eclipse will depend on the Rochester weather that day.  If it is cloudy, the view of the total eclipse has the potential to be blocked.  If it is sunny, the view will be better, and safety measures will need to be taken into consideration.  The Rochester Museum and Science Center has graciously donated a pair of eclipse glasses to all RCSD students.
