The Board of Education appointed Demario Strickland as Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2024. Mr. Strickland, who has been serving as Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning since March 2023, brings a wealth of experience, a strong educational background, and a commitment to transformational leadership that will significantly benefit our District. Throughout his tenure, he has gained the respect of his colleagues, understands the work deeply, and remains unwaveringly focused on improving student outcomes. His focus on teaching and learning reflects his belief that a teacher’s heart is essential for effective leadership.
Mr. Strickland is a doctoral candidate in Education Leadership at D’Youville University, expecting to complete his doctorate by August 2024. His academic journey includes earning credentials in Education Leadership and Supervision from Canisius College, School Business and Human Resource Management from the University at Buffalo, Administration and Supervision, and Curriculum and Teaching both from Fordham University, and Elementary Education with a Science Concentration from Canisius College.
He has served in numerous leadership roles, demonstrating his dedication to educational excellence. His professional experience includes roles as Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and Chief of Schools in the RCSD, Principal and Assistant Principal in the Buffalo City School District, and Dean of Students in the New York City Department of Education.
Teaching is his passion. He started his career as an elementary school math, science, and English Language Arts teacher. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at Niagara University. Mr. Strickland’s extensive experience, innovative mindset, and proven leadership will drive our collective mission to cultivate a culture of academic excellence for all and a community of empathy, equity, and accountability that empowers students to succeed beyond graduation.
