RCSD Welcomes Employees at New Educator Orientation
(August 23, 2023) The Rochester City School District welcomes 150 new educators to the District, as school starts on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
These new employees are part of a three-day Career in Teaching (CIT) orientation that is taking place this week at Edison Career and Technology High School. New employees include counselors, library media specialists, psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, and several new teachers. Just over half of these individuals are first-year District employees.
“I want you to know that you have chosen a profession that is a calling to inspire, guide, and transform lives,” said Dr. Carmine Peluso, Superintendent of Schools. “The role of an educator is noble and powerful, as you will influence the trajectory of countless students and contribute to the future of our City.”
In addition to hearing from Superintendent Peluso and Rochester Teachers Association President Adam Urbanski, these new educators are learning more about the Office of Human Capital, the Teaching and Learning Department, equity and everyday antiracism in the RSCD, and trauma-informed educating.
“In our classrooms, you will encounter students from various cultural backgrounds, each with unique stories and aspirations,” said Peluso. “Embrace this diversity and harness its strength to create inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered.”
The three days of information sessions and interactive workshops are overseen by Stefan Cohen, the Director of the CIT Program for the RCSD. Please join us in welcoming these new educators to our District.
