RCSD Early Childhood Department Teams Up with Rochester Library to Host Kinder Camps

(August 3, 2022) The Rochester City School District’s Early Childhood Department is teaming up with the Rochester Public Library to host Kinder Camps, an opportunity to assist families with students transitioning to kindergarten.  There are three events happening in the month of August.

Monday, August 8, 2022: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Central Library
Kate Gleason Auditorium
115 South Avenue
Rochester, NY 14604
Link for registration

Saturday, August 20, 2022: 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Maplewood Branch Library
1111 Dewey Avenue
Rochester, NY 14613

Wednesday, August 24, 2022: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Phillis Wheatley Community Library
33 Dr. Samuel McCree Way
Rochester, NY 14608

At each of these locations, children and adults will compete in a kindergarten training course/camp.  Families will go through a set of obstacles that will help young students get a sampling of what they will do during a typical day of kindergarten.  For example, students will take part in a music class and create a t-shirt in an art class.

“Families can get questions answered about what to expect in kindergarten during one of these upcoming kinder camps,” said Robin Hooper, Executive Director of the Early Childhood Department for the Rochester City School District.  “We are excited to see families join in the fun with their children, as they explore the information and skills needed to be kindergarten ready.”

The programs are free for children entering kindergarten in the fall.  Registration is required for the event on Monday, August 8.  Please see the link above for more details.
