Superintendent Dr. Lesli Myers-Small Announces Leadership Appointment

(December 23, 2021) The Rochester City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Nakia Burrows as the Acting Principal of Northeast College Preparatory High School. She officially begins her duties as Acting Principal on January 2, 2022.

A proud RCSD graduate of Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School, Ms. Burrows takes on this new role after serving as the Assistant Principal and Special Education Liaison at Northeast College Preparatory High School. Prior to taking on leadership service, she started her career as a school counselor at Northeast. She understands well the students, families, community, and staff, which will allow for a seamless transition into this new leadership role. During her time at the school, Ms. Burrows was instrumental in the master schedule development, cohort tracking processing, AP testing coordination, social emotional development, integrating student voice into school operations, and supporting the development of the instructional program. She also played a key role in developing a positive school climate by ensuring high and consistent school standards for staff and students, ensuring team development, engaging parents, and strengthening relationships with families and community partners.

Ms. Burrows earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the State University of New York College at Brockport. In addition, she earned a Master’s Degree in School Counseling and Human Development and a Master’s Degree in Urban Teaching and Leadership, both from the University of Rochester.
