(September 22, 2021) The Golden Apple award from News 8 is back, and the first winner is Kelsey Flanagan, a sixth-grade teacher from Dr. Louis A. Cerulli School No. 34. Ms. Flanagan was nominated by her mother, who describes her daughter as having a big heart and being an inspiration to her students.
Principal D’Onnarae Johnson helped News 8 surprise Ms. Flanagan, describing her as someone who really loves and cares about the students. Ms. Flanagan credits her former teachers, who she says made all the difference in her education. Those influential teachers are the reason she became an educator. Her hope for her students is that they learn to love being in school and love the learning process along the way.
