School of the Arts Educator Named Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction

Elana Herman

June 9, 2021 – The Rochester City School District would like to congratulate Elana Herman, an orchestra director and strings teacher at School of the Arts, for being selected a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).  Ms. Herman was nominated by a student for her outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in her profession.

Each year student members of NSHSS are invited to nominate the educator who has made the most significant contribution to their academic career for the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award.  This honor recognizes exemplary educators whose passion and devotion inspire their students to grow and develop as scholars, leaders, and citizens.

Ms. Herman was nominated by one of her students, 16-year-old Evelyse Cruz, who is an 11th grade strings major at School of the Arts.  The NSHSS and the National Honor Society student said, “I’ve been playing violin for eight years, and I’m very glad that my favorite teacher is getting the recognition she deserves.”

In its letter informing Herman of her award, the NSHSS wrote, “Your nomination is a testament to the lasting impact you are making on today's youth.  This honor is presented to you because of your dedication to teaching and learning and the difference you are making as a role model.”

Please join us in congratulating Elana Herman on this well-deserved honor.
