February 2, 2020—Two Rochester City School District educators were among 40 New York teachers awarded a $2,500 grant from State Farm Insurance to implement or support classroom projects. The State Farm Teacher Assist program is helping 40 teachers across New York State who are adapting to different teaching methods with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grant money will help Northeast College Prep teacher Jennifer Perez obtain digital microscopes and lab equipment for her students. She also plans to make “comfort boxes” with social emotional items to assist during hybrid learning.
Henry Hudson School No. 28 teacher Cassandra Matalavage stated that the grant money will be shared with the teachers on the third-grade team at School No. 28. They plan to use it for hands-on learning science materials.
State Farm will be sharing stories from the winning teachers on their website. See the complete list of winners here.
Congratulations to Jennifer Perez and Cassandra Matalavage!
