Rochester City School District Recognized with National Scholastic Music Education Advocacy Award
(January 23, 2020) The Rochester City School District has been honored with a 2020 Advocacy in Action Award from Music for All in recognition for the work done to promote the Pride of Rochester Marching Band.
RCSD is one of 41 schools across the nation to receive an Advocacy in Action Award from Music for All for demonstrating unwavering commitment to providing comprehensive music education for all students. The District was recognized in the Marketing and Promotion category for their project Becoming the Pride.
Due to much support from the District, specifically through Director of Arts Dominic Pickard, the Pride of Rochester Marching Band went through a complete rebranding in 2019, which included a name change and new uniforms, complete with a color scheme change that prominently features a new lion logo. In addition, they were able to purchase a new banner and completely changed the look of their social media presence.
“As soon as students put on the uniforms for the first time, their posture changed immediately, and their self-confidence has grown throughout the year,” said Becky Fox, Director of the Pride of Rochester Marching Band. “It has been amazing to watch the transformation, and I am so happy to be a part of it.”
The Rochester Education Foundation has been fundamental in The Pride’s success, working as a “booster” organization to help fund the resources needed to help increase their presence as The Pride.
