RCSD Announces 2019 NYSDEA Award Winner

(October 21, 2019) The Rochester City School District is proud to announce that the New York State Dance Education Association (NYSDEA) has selected School of the Arts teacher Bridget Bell as the 2019 Diana Domoracki-Kisto Award recipient. She will be formally recognized at the NYSDEA reception on Friday, October 25, 2019, at the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) conference in Miami, Florida.

In honor and memory of former NDEO board member and inspirational dance educator Diana Domoracki-Kisto, this award acknowledges a stellar dance educator working in a Pre-K through 12 setting.

Bridget Bell began her teaching career in the Rochester City School District in 1989 at School of the Arts, which allowed her to creatively explore in a diverse urban setting. Beginning in 1993, opportunities led her to Los Angeles and Boston, but she ultimately returned to Rochester in 2000, where she designed and implemented a dance program at Jefferson High School. In 2010, she rejoined the dance faculty at School of the Arts, currently serving as the Jazz Dance instructor for grades 7-12 and the chair of SOTA’s dance program.

The New York State Dance Education Association is an independent non-profit organization advancing dance education centered in the arts throughout New York State. Recognized by the New York State Department of Education, NYSDEA is affiliated with the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO). NYSDEA strengthens the network of dance educators nationally, locally, and within New York State.

Congratulations, Bridget, on this well-deserved recognition.
