RCSD Girls Swim Team Wins Inaugural Meet

RCSD girls varsity swimming

(September 11, 2019) Congratulations to the Rochester City School District’s Girls United Varsity Swim Team for winning its inaugural swim meet on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.  This is the first time the District has had a Districtwide swim team.  Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy had girls varsity swimming for 30 plus years, but the program folded in 2017.  East High School also had a girls varsity team, but that was more than 10 years ago.

The girls on the current team are students from District schools which include School of the Arts, Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy, and World of Inquiry School No. 58.

There are 13 students on the team competing in events, such as 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, and 500 Freestyle.  The team’s home pool is at the Freddie Thomas campus on Scio Street, which is home to George Mather Forbes School No. 4 and Montessori Academy School No. 53. The girls are coached by Austin Nau, who is also coach of the Rochester Rapids, a competitive age-group swim team for city youth ages 6 – 21.

Athletic Director Donna Enright said, “We are very excited about the future; we are off to a great start with a victory over Midlakes, and we hope to get girls from each high school in the District to be members of the team.”
