56 Students Have Artwork Selected for Display at City Hall

(October 30, 2024) Fifty-six students from the Rochester City School District received special recognition from Mayor Malik Evans for their artwork displayed at City Hall on Tuesday, October 29. These talented students participated in the Mayors for Peace competition, which aims to promote a world without nuclear weapons and foster safe, resilient communities.

The exhibition showcased the creativity and vision of students from various schools in the District.  “I am so proud of myself,” said LaMya Cooper, a student at Abelard Reynolds School No. 42.  “I feel like I worked so hard to get here.  My favorite part about art is that you can create anything; whatever comes to your mind, you can create it and make it art.”

The District extends its heartfelt congratulations to the following students for their outstanding artwork:

Rochester is one of 8,300 cities worldwide involved in Mayors for Peace, which was founded in 1982 and is led by the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The top five winners in each age group (6-10 and 11-15) are eligible to submit their artwork for consideration in an international competition in Japan. Their names are highlighted with an asterisk.  All 56 students received a certificate, and the ten students eligible to submit their artwork for the international competition also received medals.
