Summer of Discovery: Roc Vocademics at Monroe Community College

(July 29, 2024) Learning during the summer months should be fun, motivating, and engaging.  That is why the Rochester City School District is proud to celebrate its Summer of Discovery and the learning programs offered from July 8 – August 20, 2024.

One standout program is Roc Vocademics, designed for students in grades 7 – 8, hosted at Monroe Community College’s downtown campus.  Roc Vocademics integrates literacy, mathematics, and Career and Technical Education, offering students a unique blend of academic and hands-on learning.

“Students are exposed to different trades and career options,” said Yarritza Delgado, the Principal of Roc Vocademics.  “Students are working on different types of media, creating newspapers, and discussing the risks of social media – all while finding personal meaning in their work.”

“I wanted to be an actor,” said Avery Grace-McLean, a rising 8th-grade student at School of the Arts. “Now, I am focusing on music production.  My favorite classes are where you learn something new; it is a fun experience. I have friends and people I know here. I was missing school, so I am happy I am here.”

Additionally, students have been engaging in e-gaming, the use of drones, video production, and carpentry classes.
