(May 31, 2024) The Rochester City School District thanks the Rochester Red Wings for welcoming over 300 students to experience the thrill of a baseball game at Innovative Field on Thursday, May 30, 2024. This special event was part of Education Day, an annual tradition where, this year, the Red Wings opened their doors to more than 5,500 students from across the Rochester area.
Students from a total of 17 RCSD schools participated in the outing. Some of those students were even given a police escort to the ballpark. Students were represented from schools all over the District including; Schools No. 4, 5, 9, 10, 17, 22, 23, 25, 34, 39, 45, 50, 54, East Lower School, School Without Walls, Joesph C. Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy, and World of Inquiry School No. 58.
“Our Education Day is one of the more electric crowds of the season each year,” said Dan Mason, General Manager of the Rochester Red Wings. “It’s a chance for kids to learn about baseball, as many have never been to a game before. This is an opportunity for students to see and hear from organizations they might not typically interact with. We had exhibitors from the Seneca Park Zoo, Lollypop Farm, the Monroe County Library System, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Center for Youth, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester, Seneca Waterways Council, and many more.”
This was an opportunity for students to enjoy America’s favorite pastime, and it also served as a reminder of the importance of experiential learning and community engagement.
