James Monroe Athletic Director Receives National Certification

(March 13, 2023) The Rochester City School District congratulates Jeff Wheaton, the Athletic Director at James Monroe Lower and Upper Schools, for completing the national requirements for recognition as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator. This honor is the highest designation earned through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). 

The NIAAA certification program consists of 55 courses dealing with administration and school law, operation of the athletic department, and event management. In addition to completing a minimum of 12 courses in various areas of Athletic Administration, Mr. Wheaton also completed a graduate-level project, submitted proof of achievement in his current position, and was endorsed by District administration before receiving this high honor. 

Mr. Wheaton, who joined the RCSD in September of 2022, is in his 7th year as a Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics. He started his teaching career in Northern Virginia before becoming an administrator and has coached various sports at all levels, including, baseball, cross country, track and field, basketball, and football. He has earned an Associate’s Degree from Monroe Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport, a Master’s Degree in Health Education from the University of Alabama, and an Education Leadership Certification from Marshall University.  Mr. Wheaton also has certifications in physical education, health education, and school leadership.
