Student-Athletes from Across RCSD Host First Leadership Team Meeting
(January 19, 2023) Several student-athletes are using a full-court press to improve experiences in sports within the Rochester City School District. Scholar-athletes from all RCSD high schools visited the District’s Central Office on Wednesday, January 18 for a student-athlete leadership team meeting.
The group will meet once a month to discuss issues relative to sports in the District, prioritize needs, and create the next steps for a better athletic experience. Superintendent Dr. Carmine Peluso, once a two-time Division III national champion and all-American lacrosse player at Nazareth College, visited with students and told them how important they are in these discussions and how much he values their feedback.
At Wednesday’s meeting, students discussed the qualifications needed to be part of this leadership team. Students split up into groups, where they brainstormed a vision for the team, and each group presented their ideas ranging from concerns about funding and equipment to uniforms and coaches.
All of the District’s athletic directors are working with scholar-athletes on this initiative, with the goal for students to meet monthly.
