School No. 39 Teacher Receives “Teacher Hero of COVID-19” Award from Ford Motor Company

(November 22, 2021) The Ford Motor Company has recognized a Rochester City School District employee as a “Teacher Hero of COVID-19.”  Pam Grant is a special education teacher at Andrew J. Townson School No. 39, and she is one of 25 teachers from across the country to receive this distinction.

The award recognizes educators who “in the face of tremendous difficulty, heroically resolved to reach and teach students.” The award is part of the company’s Freedom Unsung awards, which celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions in their communities.

Ms. Grant, who teaches sixth grade, delivered books and other school supplies to students’ homes every Friday from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, until students returned to a hybrid of remote instruction in February of 2021.  She also conducted social-emotional check-ins with students as part of her home visits.

Ms. Grant will receive $1,000 dollars as part of this award, along with classroom materials from Ford.  Please join us in congratulating Ms. Grant.
