District Receives Response From Zoom After Unfortunate Incident

The Rochester City School District has received a response from Zoom Video Communications, Inc. after the District informed the company of a disturbing experience that occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2020.

The District was conducting its first family forum to explain its re-opening plan when the meeting had to be stopped abruptly due to individuals “zoom-bombing” the informational meeting. This was an unfortunate incident which involved the exposure of racial slurs, inappropriate pictures, and other graffiti on screen. Information was turned over to law enforcement and Zoom responded to a letter the District sent on August 18, 2020.

In Zoom’s response to the District, the company said, “We sincerely regret that the school district experienced this meeting interruption.  What happened to your meeting was awful and we want you to know we take these issues very seriously.”

Zoom asked the District to provide it with specific information so the company can conduct its own investigation, and the District is providing that information.

This was an unfortunate situation, and the District does not condone such behavior.  Additional parent forums have been held throughout the week of August 17, 2020 in a different format. If parents have been unable to participate in those forums, the District has made subsequent meetings available for the public to view
