RCSD Teachers Complete Internship in Career in Teaching Program
(June 19, 2020) The Rochester City School District would like to congratulate all of the interns who successfully completed its Career in Teaching (CIT) Program. Each year the CIT program chooses a small number of exemplary new teachers to recognize as CIT Interns of the Year. This award recognizes the most outstanding first year teachers and student service providers in the Rochester City School District. Teachers are nominated by their CIT Mentors and Administrator Supervisors.
180 new teachers received mentor support this year, and the CIT Governing Panel then selected 5 individuals to be honored as part of this annual program.
The following individuals were recognized;
- Matthew Battaglia, Speech-Language , School #29
- Ellie Coonce, 7th Grade Science, School #17
- Jonathon Cruz Colon, Bilingual Language & Literacy Academy
- LaToya Grady, 9th Grade Environmental Science, Leadership Academy for Young Men
- Gavin Jenkins, Chemistry, East High School
Rochester has been a national leader for years in quality mentoring. The CIT program is one of the first in the country, and Rochester understands the importance of ongoing mentoring and supervision. This program is proof that great things happen when the administration of the District works well with its Teachers Union. Established in 1987, the Careers in Teaching Program has been responsible for producing countless numbers of professional educators.
