Edison Tech Senior Signs National Letter of Intent to Niagara University
The Rochester City School District congratulates Djeynaba “DJ” Thiam, a senior at Edison Career and Technology High School, for signing a National Letter of Intent to attend Niagara University where she will play soccer.
Thiam is the first RCSD female athlete to receive a scholarship to a Division I school for soccer. She is an exceptional student with a grade point average of 3.63. She scored 30 goals this past season, part of a team that was formed this year because of dwindling participation. Now, twenty-seven girls from eight different schools in the RCSD play for the School of the Arts (SOTA) girls soccer team.
Thiam said, “I want to thank everyone who has supported me and for the coaches who have helped me to perfect my skills.”
Nicole Hercules, the varsity girls soccer coach at SOTA said, “DJ was a special player when I first met her at 8-year’s-old. To see DJ become the first female to get a Division I scholarship to soccer in the RCSD seems like the perfect ending to her now historic soccer career. We are so excited for DJ, her future is bright.”
Congratulations, Djeynaba, on this well-deserved accomplishment.
