RCSD Students Compete in 2025 Finger Lakes FIRST Regional Robotics Competition
(March 13, 2025) Students from several Rochester City School District high schools are gearing up to showcase their skills in the 2025 Finger Lakes FIRST Regional Robotics Competition. After participating in practice rounds on Thursday, March 13, teams will officially compete on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 14, at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Representing RCSD in this competition are:
- X-Cats Robotics Team (191): Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy
- ROC City Robotics Team (3838): Edison Career and Technology High School
- Crimson Jewels Robotics Team (10223): a first-year, multi-school team based at James Monroe High School, with students from Monroe, East High School, School of the Arts, School Without Walls Commencement Academy, and World of Inquiry School No. 58
“I never imagined I would have this opportunity,” said Janelly Rosales, a senior from Monroe High School who transferred from Florida this school year. “It is an amazing experience, being hands-on, learning new things, and working as a team. We get to bring our ideas together, solve problems, and support each other.”
First Robotics is a global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the future through inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4 – 18. These programs provide students with hands-on experience in engineering and project design while engaging them in a dynamic competition that challenges them to test their creations in real-world scenarios. This year’s event features ReefScape, where teams use their engineering skills to help strengthen one of the ocean’s most diverse habitats.
