Edison Career and Technology High School Hosts 4th Annual Diesel Days

(October 23, 2024) For the fourth consecutive year, Edison Career and Technology High School reinvented the traditional field trip to raise awareness about job opportunities in transportation.

The school’s “Diesel Days” event on October 22 showcased companies in the manufacturing technology field and allowed students from different pathways to connect directly with potential employers. During this unique “field trip” at the Edison campus, students introduced themselves and engaged in one-on-one conversations with representatives from the diesel industry.

“It has grown over the last four years into a great event where we have all different companies and organizations talking to our students about real careers in the diesel industry,” said Dan Collins, a Career and Technical Education Machine Shop teacher.”

“When we talk about college and career readiness, you cannot have that without hands-on experience and access and exposure to different careers,” said LaCassa Felton, Principal of Edison Career and Technology High School. “Students can get on various rigs and use a simulator.  They are visible learners, and we want them to see what careers are out there.”

Potential employers networked with future students who are potential interns/job seekers and educators passionate about the diesel industry.  Representatives from the City of Rochester and several companies were there, including the Trucking Association of New York (TANY), Leonard’s Express, Wadham’s Enterprises, First Student, RTS, and the U.S. Army.
