Breakfast with the Mayor: Celebrating Attendance at School No. 33

(October 4, 2024) On Friday, October 4, students at John James Audubon School No. 33 gathered for a special celebration: “Breakfast with the Mayor.”  Mayor Malik Evans joined students in honoring those with perfect and improved attendance for September.  This event, held at the Ryan Community Center, not only acknowledged the hard work and dedication of students; it also emphasized the importance of being present in school every day.

Interim Superintendent Demario Strickland shared inspiring remarks via video, congratulating the students on their achievements.  He emphasized that regular attendance is crucial for academic success, noting that frequent or unexplained absences can significantly hinder a student’s progress.

“Take the opportunity to look at your classmates that possibly are not coming to school every day, and just ask them, what is keeping you from coming to school?” said Strickland.   “Encourage them to come to school just like you.”

“Getting our students to school every day makes a real difference,” said Lisa Garrow, Principal of School No. 33. “Being in school and on time is very important as we equip students with the skills they need to be successful. Our students are eager to be here.”

At School No. 33, perfect attendance is celebrated throughout the year, with a variety of engaging events planned to motivate all students.  Upcoming celebrations include an ice cream bar, a waffle bar, and exciting field trips, all designed to reward students for attending school regularly.
