Summer of Discovery: Roc Achieve at James Monroe High School
(July 24, 2024) Learning during the summer months should be fun, motivating, and engaging. That is why the Rochester City School District is proud to celebrate its Summer of Discovery and the learning programs that are being offered to students from July 8 – August 20, 2024.
One program is Roc Achieve for RCSD students in grades 7 and 8. The location for the new program is at James Monroe High School. Roc Achieve is aimed at helping students succeed by focusing on four core subjects: English language arts, social studies, math, and science. Additionally, through a partnership with the City of Rochester, the program offers enrichment activities such as arts exploration and sports.
“We wanted to figure out a way that we would be able to get students here to learn and incentivize the learning,” said Kimberly Brown, Principal of the Roc Achieve summer program. “This is also an opportunity for us to build our modified sports program. We know kids love sports, and being able to participate in team sports and activities motivates them.”
This collaboration with the City supports physical development through sports games and competitions and provides aquatic education through swim lessons at local recreation centers led by experienced lifeguards and instructors. The curriculum is designed to be engaging, encouraging students to explore their interests and social-emotional needs while connecting with real-world experiences.
