Edison Career and Technology High School Hosts First-Ever Young Men’s Day
(June 11, 2024) Edison Career and Technology High School, dedicated to preparing students for success in college, careers, and beyond, hosted its first-ever Young Men’s Day on Monday, June 10. This event was exclusively tailored for young men and their unique challenges. The day provided a focused opportunity for students to acquire skills, knowledge, and mentorship necessary for life after high school.
Throughout the day, students interacted with accomplished professionals, gaining insights on various aspects of career development. Sessions covered topics such as resume writing and effective interviewing techniques, ensuring students are well-prepared after graduation.
Moreover, representatives from the City of Rochester and the State of New York were on hand to provide information about civil service positions. Additionally, local labor organizations, such as the Bricklayers Union, provided information on potential careers within the skilled trades.
“It is nice to be able to figure out other opportunities,” said David Johnson, a senior at Edison. “These men are known for what they do, and hopefully they can steer me in the right direction.” David plans to go to MCC in the fall and wants to study animation after earning an associate’s degree.
In addition to career-focused sessions, students enhanced their financial literacy by learning from Jarrett Felton, the Founder and Managing Director of Invessent, a financial management company. Topics such as understanding credit scores, banking basics, financial aid options, and personal wellness were covered.
