Nearly 200 RCSD Students Recognized at Urban League of Rochester’s Annual Salute to Black Scholars
(June 5, 2024) The Rochester City School District congratulates 193 students who were selected to attend the Urban League of Rochester’s 45th Annual Salute to Black Scholars event on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Gordon Field House on the campus of Rochester Institute of Technology.
For over four decades, the Black Scholars program has provided academic recognition, college readiness assistance, and scholarship incentives to students who achieve and maintain a “B” or better average throughout high school.
The 193 students from the Rochester City School District were among more than 600 high school seniors from Monroe County and surrounding counties selected for their academic achievements. Families, educators, and community leaders attended to show their support for the recipients.
“There has been persistent press on violence and crime involving our community’s youth of color,” said Dr. Seanelle Hawkins, President and CEO of the Urban League of Rochester. “I am hopeful this uplifting celebration of our Urban League Black Scholars’ exceptional academic accomplishments captivates equal attention.”
Congratulations to all of the RCSD students on this well-deserved recognition.
