Wilson Commencement Student Chosen for Statewide Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
(May 22, 2024) The Rochester City School District congratulates Hazel Roberts for being selected to a New York State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The junior at Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy is one of 22 leaders from across the state to serve on this committee.
SAAC was developed to give student-athletes a voice within the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. Student representatives on this committee discuss topics relevant to high school student-athletes and develop ways to maintain a positive athletic experience.
“As a committee member, one of the most important things we do is find ways to promote sportsmanship,” said Hazel. “I hope to make things equitable and fair and promote student-athlete engagement.”
Now that Hazel has been selected as a SAAC leader, she will go to Indianapolis for training in July to learn to enhance her leadership skills, network with peers, and gain valuable insights to bring back to the RCSD.
Throughout her high school athletic playing days, Hazel has been a captain of the varsity track and field team. She has played varsity volleyball since tenth grade, and she became a captain this school year. She has also been a member of Wilson Commencement’s golf team.
