Family and Community Engagement Forum

  • Please join us for the RCSD Annual Family and Community Engagement Forum on April 5, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Loretta Johnson Middle School. This year’s event has a lot to offer, including free lunch, live entertainment, a community resource fair, engaging workshops, and interactive activities for the whole family. This event is hosted by the Rochester Board of Education in collaboration with the RCSD Office of Parent Engagement.

The annual forum is an opportunity for parents to discuss important topics with the District and our community and to gain valuable insights and strategies for student success through a series of engaging workshops. In addition, families will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, RCSD's new Superintendent. Dr. Rosser will join our district in July 2025.

For secondary students, a Teen Summit hosted by the Student Leadership Congress for ages 12-17 will provide a safe space for teens to share, learn, and lead.

For families attending with younger children, the forum will feature interactive age-appropriate activities and childcare for ages 3-11.

Community Resource Fair

  • Show up early! There will be a Community Resource Fair from 10:00 to 11:00 am. RCSD parent groups and community vendors will engage families about additional services, programs, and opportunities within our schools and community.

2025 Workshop Sessions

  • Adult participants will be asked to choose from the following topics:

    • High School ELA Curriculum Review: Parents and students are invited to preview a selection of new English Language Arts (ELA) curricula being considered for the 2025-2026 school year. Hosted by curriculum vendors, including East High School, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and StudySync, this session will provide insight into the programs piloted this year. Families will also have the opportunity to register for informational sessions on April 8 and April 10 to learn more and share feedback.
    • Community Forum-Supporting Student Mental Health - Resources & Strategies: This forum session will focus on the mental health supports available for students and families across the district. Participants will engage in discussions on accessing resources, strategies for promoting well-being, and ways schools and the community can collaborate to support student mental health. This session provides an opportunity for families to share insights, ask questions, and learn about services designed to foster student success and emotional well-being.
    • Engaging Families for Middle School Success: Learn about the changes middle school students go through—social, emotional, and academic—and discover ways to support your child
    • Bridging Home and School: A Collaborative Journey for Student Success: Find out how families and schools can work together more effectively to help children do their best both at home and in the classroom.
    • Multilingualism and Raising the Bar: This session will explore the cognitive, academic, and social benefits of multilingualism, emphasizing how maintaining home languages strengthens identity and learning. Parents will discuss myths and facts about language acquisition and receive practical strategies to support their children’s bilingual development at home. The session will also highlight the importance of advocating for multilingual programs in schools and provide families with resources to foster language growth.
