Types of Per Diem "Substitute" Employees
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Teacher certification is not required to work as a per diem teacher, however, 2 years of College equivalent experience is required.PER DIEM TEACHER (day-to-day coverage)
A Per Diem Teacher, alias a substitute teacher, provides day-to-day coverage district-wide for teacher absences. The employee at HCI Liaison is the Senior Personnel Analyst in the Substitute Management Division. Per Diem Substitute Teachers are members of the Rochester Teachers Association. Teacher certification is not required per diem. However, Uncertified Per Diem Teachers may work a maximum of 40 days per school year. The initial pay rate is $140.00 per day. The rate increases to $205.00 per day after 50 days and if a per diem teacher works 100 days in the same school year, the rate increases to $225.00 per day. There are requirements that must be met upon reaching a pay rate in order to maintain it.PER DIEM TEACHER (continuous coverage -- same assignment/same teacher/same students)
A Continuous Substitute is a Per Diem Teacher that provides coverage for a teacher absent for more than 3 weeks. Per Diem Substitute Teachers are members of the Rochester Teachers Association. Teacher certification is not required to work as a per diem teacher, however, 2 years of College equivalent experience is required. The base initial pay rate is $140.00 per day. After 16 days, the rate increases by $20.00. The rate increases to $255.00 per day after 46 days. If a per diem teacher works more than 61 days, they become eligible for medical and dental benefits while working on the long-term assignment and the payrate remains at the maximum rate of $255.00 per day.LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE (in a vacant position for a full academic year)
Per Diem Subs who are placed in VACANT Long-Term Position for the entire school year shall be considered Long-Term Subs. Long-term subs shall report to the assigned school every day students are in attendance up to 185 days, including testing days, as well as attending all Superintendent’s Conference Days, regardless of location. Building substitutes shall be paid at the 46-day Long Term Rate of $255. Long-term substitutes will be selected by the building principal & expected to perform in the position for the full academic year. In the event that a certified teacher is hired to fill a vacancy, a Long-Term sub can be asked to leave an assignment. Long- Term substitutes will be eligible to receive the same health and dental benefits under the same terms as those offered to employees by the Rochester Teacher Association. It is not guaranteed that this position will carry over into the next school year.
