"You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that fleeting moment when you feel alive. It is not for unsteady souls." -- Merce Cunningham
DANCE AT SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
The SOTA Dance Department educates students in Grades 7-12 in a wide variety of dance genres from throughout the world. The curriculum spans techniques ranging from Tap, Jazz, Modern and Ballet to World Dance and Social Dance forms. The students also study dance history as it pertains to the technique they are studying. Anatomy and Somatics are taught as they are foundational building blocks taught in tandem with technique classes. Student creativity and excellence is celebrated in a variety of annual showcases shared with the SOTA Community. The SOTA Dance Faculty all hold New York State Dance Certifications and bring with them many years of performance and pedagogical experience.
