CREATIVE WRITING AT SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

The Creative Writing program provides guidance, support, and numerous social, academic, and artistic opportunities for young writers. Students in the Creative Writing program study and create all forms of human communication: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, play and film scripts, media, journalism, hybrid genres, and engage in performances, public readings, and publications. The goal of the program is to help young writers cultivate their talents, develop their artistic voice and imagination to broaden their command of the writer's craft at all levels. The program also focuses on teaching students to read critically as young writers. All classes involve reading, thinking deeply about and discussing the writer's craft, engaging in writing workshops with peers and teachers, and developing an extensive writing portfolio.
