Naviance and College Application Process
Naviance is a comprehensive college and career readiness platform that enables self-discovery, career exploration, and academic planning and college preparation for millions of students around the globe. Beginning in the Fall of 2017, Naviance will be the primary program that counselors will use to assist seniors through the college application process. Naviance offers school counselor driven classroom presentations at every grade level for post-secondary planning.
Tasks will include:
- Secondary School Reports
- Letters of Recommendation will only be accepted through Naviance – Counselors and Teachers
- Use student login credentials
- Access Naviance through ROConnect dashboard
- Log into your student account.
- Review activity for corresponding grade level.
- Watch Road Trip Nation video.
- Questions? See your counselor.
We are eager to assist you to apply for colleges and to plan for your career. College recruiters visit School of the Arts throughout the year and college visits are listed in our Counseling Newsletter that can be found on the School of the Arts website and will be emailed to students in grades 10 through 12 as they become available. Students will need a pass from their counselor to meet with a college recruiter excusing them from class. Students are responsible for any missed class assignments. Please be advised that counselors are not financial aid professionals. The counselors will share resources and local events pertaining to financial aid in the counseling newsletter. Counselors will host an annual college night event in the fall.
Students are responsible for monitoring college application deadlines, updating their Naviance accounts and communicating with their counselor regarding applications and deadlines.
Students will request letters of recommendation through their Naviance accounts after a conversation with the recommending teacher. Students are responsible for updating their resume in Naviance or providing their own resume.
Senior Launch Guide
RIT Gear Up and the Department of School Counseling have collaborated to introduce the Senior Launch Guide. The guide serves as a roadmap for scholars to help them attain post-secondary options such as college, the workforce and/or military. RIT Gear Up's outreach specialists and RCSD school counselors utilize this guide to support scholars.
