9023    TLI SEMINAR IV – THE PROFESSIONAL YEAR

    (1 credit – 1 Semester, 2 class periods)

The 12th grade seminar prepares students for their role as a professional in the workplace.  Students perfect their knowledge of lesson and unit planning, lesson organization, preparation of materials, delivery of instruction, classroom management and reflection upon classroom performance.  Students must also prepare their portfolios for senior exit interviews.  The last 10 weeks of the seminar students complete a paid internship at one of the district’s elementary schools or in a 7th or 8th grade classroom at the high school.  In many cases, these placements occur with the same teacher with whom the students worked in the 11th grade year.  The students work four days per week, two hours per day for a total of ten weeks.  This is a paid experience for students since they are interns and expected to adhere to the same practices as an employee.  Within the classroom setting, TLI students work with individual students, small groups, and large groups preparing and executing lessons with the guidance of their cooperating teacher.
