    Stephanie Bliss
    Grade 9 (L-Z)
    Bliss

    Stephanie Bliss is a School  Counselor at East. Stephanie grew up in the city of Rochester and attended city schools. She is most proud of her high school experience right at East where she was in the founding class of TLI (Teaching and Learning Institute, a magnet program for future educators). She attended Bethune Cookman University right after high school where she completed three semesters. She then transferred to The College at Brockport where she finished her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Ms. Bliss began her career working in the community as an outreach education coordinator for a teen pregnancy prevention program and then decided to go back to school for school counseling. She then completed her Master’s degree in School Counseling from The College at Brockport and has been a school counselor at East since 2009. In response to the varying mental health needs of her students and families Ms. Bliss expanded her counseling lens by being the first at St. John Fisher College to complete a CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) in Mental Health Counseling in 2014.  

    Kate VanLare is a school counselor in the Freshman Academy at East High School. She grew up in Northern Michigan and graduated with her Bachelor of Sciencee in Interdisiplinary Health SServices from Western Michigan University in 2010. She recently earned her Masters of Science and Community Counseling from University of Rochester Warner School of Education. Mrs. VanLare is passionate about helping youth realize their potential in taking charge of their futures by maximizing their opportunities at East and beyond. Go East!

     

    Christine Burnell is a School Counselor at East Upper School for grades 10-12, last names starting S through Z. Mrs. Burnell grew up in West Henrietta, NY. She attended MCC and earned an Associates of Applied Science in Accounting.  She then attended Nazareth College where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  After working nine years as an Accountant she went back to school, at the University of Rochester, and earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Development. Mrs. Burnell has been a School Counselor at East since 1998.

    Ms. Gilbert is a native Rochesterian.  She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and African-American & African Studies at Binghamton University, and a Master of Science degree in Counseling & Human Development at the University of Rochester.   She spent several years as a college admissions professional at both RIT and the U of R, and loves to see her students uncover the opportunities that a college experience offers!  Ms. Gilbert’s roots with East HS run deep.  She joined the faculty of East in 1997 and is the proud sister of two East HS graduates.
