The Young Mothers and Interim Health Academy (YM&IHA)

The Rochester City School District (RCSD) Young Mothers Program (YMP) began in 1969.  The goal of the YMP is to prevent pregnant and parenting students from dropping out of school and encourage post-secondary education. As we help our students complete their education, we are committed to helping them prepare academically and for parenthood while supporting them emotionally and socially.
The Interim Health Academy (IHA) offers short-term intervention for students who have social-emotional issues that may result in their inability to attend school on a regular basis.

Young Mothers Prenatal Care at School Program (PAS Program) In October 2010, all students, regardless of healthcare provider, enrolled in the Young Mothers Program will receive group prenatal care education on Wednesdays after school.Three area providers Rochester Adolescent Maternity Program (RAMP), Family Medicine and Rochester General Hospital (RGH) will be coming to Young Mothers for prenatal care education and care. In addition, those girls that attend RAMP, Family Medicine and RGH Maternity Program will get their basic routine prenatal care check-up here (this will include fundal height, fetal heart rate, blood pressure and weight, it will not include any internal exams or tests – these must be done at the provider’s office) which will decrease trips to the Doctor’s office and emergency room visits.
