    New band students try top three instrument choices, this process will take several weeks before his or her final instrument is selected. Instruments will be assigned based on interest, natural ability, and availability. Returning students will be given the same instrument and begin lessons as soon as possible.

    Attached to this letter are several forms that need to be completed and returned. Please complete the entire Bond Form and Information Sheet. These forms will be copied and returned to you with a receipt for the non-refundable leasing fee ($10). If you are unable to pay the nonrefundable leasing fee please indicate on the Information sheet. 

    Please complete the attached forms as soon as possible but no later than Friday, September 13th and return to homeroom teacher.  Lessons will begin as soon as possible. I am looking forward to teaching all of your children and supporting his or her band journey. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions.

    Alexandra Vasilius Pitnell holds a Bachelor's Degree of Music Education from SUNY Fredonia and a Masters of Science in Music Education from Nazareth College. Alex is originally from Denver, Colorado where she was principal flute in both the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra and Boulder Youth Symphony Orchestra. She received first place in the Colorado State Music Teachers Association Flute Competition and the Music Teachers National Association Flute Competition. Alex also received the Merit Award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in 2004. 

    While at SUNY Fredonia, she was the principal flute player in Wind Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and traveled to China with the Wind Ensemble in 2008. Alex performed in the 2013 Women in Music Festival, played with the Perinton Concert Band and served as publicity chair on the Rochester Flute Association Board. Alex presently teaches instrumental music in the Rochester City School District and was a Director for the Pride of Rochester Marching Band. Alex also conducted the Rochester City-Wide Foundations Band at Kodak Hall in 2016. Alex designed and wrote curriculum for the instrumental music program in 2019 and is devoted to improving the lives of her students through music.
