Collaborate:
- With other service providers (Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Social Worker, Pyschologist) to determine the need for service.
- With teachers to provide speech and language services that support the NYS Common Core Curriculum
- With parents to provide suggestions to support student's speech and language progress
Provide:Language services for students who have difficulty:- Answering questions
- In concept development
- Recalling information
- Phonemic awareness
- Reasoning & critical thinking
- Following directions
- Identifying and using grade level vocabulary
- Formulating grammatically correct sentences
- Written language
Speech services for students who have difficulty:
- Being understood when speaking to others and when engaged in Common Core Curriculum
- Producing all speech sounds correctly
- Using smooth, fluent speech in conversation
Ways to enhance your child's speech and language skills at home:- Read to your child everyday
- Ask your child questions about a story or their day
- Encourage your child to use complete sentences
- Label/identify objects and pictures to help increase your child's vocabulary
- Give your child 1-2 step directions while they help out at home
- Have your child recall or retell information about an activity or experience
- Encourage your child to speak slowly and clearly to help others understand them
- Have your child imitate the correct production of sounds
About UsAmy Guerrera has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for 20 years and has worked at Mary Cariola Children's Center, Fairport Central Schools and Rochester City Schools. She attended SUNY Fredonia for her undergraduate and graduate work. She has worked in a variety of settings with a range of ages.Linda Keim-Kohlstaedt has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for the last 35 years. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Nazareth College of Rochester. Her work experience has included working with a wide range of ages across a variety of settings including Bativia Migrant Day Care Center, Crestwood Children Center, University of Rochester, and as a coordinator for comprehensive diagnostic services for Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES.
