Welcome to the ESOL classroom
Dear Parent or Guardian,
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this year. I love teaching ESOL (English as a Second Language) or ENL(English as a New Language) because I am a former ESOL student myself and understand how it is to be in a new country and assimilate to the new culture. My goal is to provide support during ELA and Social Studies classes during the day. Over the course of the year, we will work hard to improve our Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills. ESOL students will be taking the NYSESLAT exam in the spring in addition to the NYS Regents exams.
I work with your childfor half(.5) or one (1) period every day. During that time, we are working on improving reading comprehension, building academic vocabulary, improving writing with close attentionto grammar rules during ourmini-lessons. InPIG class, we are working on a research paper, where students learn how to doa literature review and paraphrasing the articles in their own words. We are covering a lot of new and meaningful vocabulary. My main goal is to make my students come out of their shells and express their thoughts using a wide range of vocabulary in their speech and writing.
I am available daily to assist students with work from other classes. Please do not hesitate and contact me via email at jamilya.arzanesh@rcsdk12.org
